Time management

The heavy PhD workload forces you to practise effective time management. Organization and planning are two key elements for ensuring your PhD success and maintaining work-life (studies-work-family-recreation) balance.

Just like in a marathon, you need to take a number of factors into account to reach the finish line on your own two feet and with your head held high!

Maintaining a balance

During your PhD studies, it is recommended that you maintain a healthy work-life balance, and set quality time aside for the people who are important to you and the activities you enjoy. Remember that focusing on your family and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits are just as important as concentrating on your studies and meeting deadlines.

Good time management involves various elements:

  • Long-term and short-term planning
  • Identifying SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely) goals.
